Low-cost railcar number reading for private yards
Canopy Vision AEI (Automatic Equipment Identification) RFID readers combine cameras and RFID antennas to read railcar numbers and direction while capturing a visual record of each car as it passes—something traditional AEI readers don’t do. They are the perfect solution for industrial and private rail yards that need to track cars at specific points along the track.

What It Does
At each pass-by point, Canopy Vision AEI readers combine RFID and a camera to log car numbers, direction, and stored video you can use for loading verification or damage and claims review.
The included Canopy Vision web platform adds a dashboard for demurrage, dwell, and inventory forecasting, a video library for every pass-by event, and an open API for IT integration.
Key Benefits
Installation
Canopy Vision’s AEI Reader can determine car direction and can read car numbers without having to install antennas on both sides of the track and without the need for wheel sensors. This reduces the installation cost and time while still delivering the data needed for more industrial and private railyards.
How It Works
RFID reads AEI tags; the camera records each car in motion.
Car number, direction, timestamp, and video are logged automatically.
Review footage, run reports, or send data to internal systems.
Remote Deployments
Quote solar + battery for sites without power, with cellular networking and optional Starlink when higher bandwidth is needed.
